Not all treatment centers provide detoxification services. Some
that don't, may offer to make arrangements for you to enter
a detox center that they are familiar with and do regular business
with or they may simply provide you with referrals and expect
you to make the arrangements for yourself.
Regardless, ask the specific facility that is offering on-site
detox services, if they are non-medical or medically-assisted?
Non-medical can be fine for substances such as cocaine or
meth-amphetamines, but for any opiates, alcohol or benzodiazepines,
detox medications can help control what may otherwise be unbearable
withdrawal symptoms that can prevent the client from staying
in detox and he or she ends up using the substance of choice
to escape these painful symptoms.
Suboxone or Subutex are very good detox medications for all
opiate addictions. They provide a virtually pain free detox
from opiates.
